Vagantyl uses

Vagantyl consists of Homatropine Methylbromide, Scopolamine Oxide Hydrobromide, Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine Hydrochloride).

Homatropine Methylbromide:

Vagantyl (Homatropine Methylbromide) is a quaternary ammonium muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist belonging to the group of medicines called anti-muscarinics. Homatropine is used to treat duodenal or stomach ulcers or intestine problems. It can be used together with antacids or other medicine in the treatment of peptic ulcer. It may also be used to prevent nausea, vomiting, and motion sickness.

Indication: Used in conjunction with antacids or histamine H2-receptor antagonists in the treatment of peptic ulcers, gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, to reduce further gastric acid secretion and delay gastric emptying.

Vagantyl (Homatropine Methylbromide) belongs to the group of medicines called anti-muscarinics. Homatropine is used to treat duodenal or stomach ulcers or intestine problems. Scopolamine Oxide Hydrobromide:

An alkaloid from Solanaceae, especially Datura metel L. and Scopola carniolica. Vagantyl (Scopolamine Oxide Hydrobromide) and its quaternary derivatives act as antimuscarinics like atropine, but may have more central nervous system effects. Among the many uses are as an anesthetic premedication, in urinary incontinence, in motion sickness, as an antispasmodic, and as a mydriatic and cycloplegic.

Indication: For the treatment of excessive salivation, colicky abdominal pain, bradycardia, sialorrhoea, diverticulitis, irritable bowel syndrome and motion sickness.

Vagantyl (Scopolamine Oxide Hydrobromide) is a muscarinic antagonist structurally similar to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and acts by blocking the muscarinic acetylcholine receptors and is thus classified as an anticholinergic. Vagantyl (Scopolamine Oxide Hydrobromide) has many uses including the prevention of motion sickness. It is not clear how Vagantyl (Scopolamine Oxide Hydrobromide) prevents nausea and vomiting due to motion sickness. The vestibular part of the ear is very important for balance. When a person becomes disoriented due to motion, the vestibule sends a signal through nerves to the vomiting center in the brain, and vomiting occurs. Acetylcholine is a chemical that nerves use to transmit messages to each other. It is believe that Vagantyl (Scopolamine Oxide Hydrobromide) prevents communication between the nerves of the vestibule and the vomiting center in the brain by blocking the action of acetylcholine. Vagantyl (Scopolamine Oxide Hydrobromide) also may work directly on the vomiting center. Vagantyl (Scopolamine Oxide Hydrobromide) must be taken before the onset of motion sickness to be effective.
