Naxogin Compositum uses

Naxogin Compositum consists of Chloramphenicol, Nimorazole, Nystatin.

Chloramphenicol:

An antibiotic first isolated from cultures of Streptomyces venequelae in 1947 but now produced synthetically. It has a relatively simple structure and was the first broad-spectrum antibiotic to be discovered. It acts by interfering with bacterial protein synthesis and is mainly bacteriostatic. (From Martindale, The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 29th ed, p106)

Indication: Used in treatment of cholera, as it destroys the vibrios and decreases the diarrhea. It is effective against tetracycline-resistant vibrios. It is also used in eye drops or ointment to treat bacterial conjunctivitis.

Naxogin Compositum (Chloramphenicol) is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that was derived from the bacterium Streptomyces venezuelae and is now produced synthetically. Naxogin Compositum (Chloramphenicol) is effective against a wide variety of microorganisms, but due to serious side-effects (e.g., damage to the bone marrow, including aplastic anemia) in humans, it is usually reserved for the treatment of serious and life-threatening infections (e.g., typhoid fever). Naxogin Compositum (Chloramphenicol) is bacteriostatic but may be bactericidal in high concentrations or when used against highly susceptible organisms. Naxogin Compositum (Chloramphenicol) stops bacterial growth by binding to the bacterial ribosome (blocking peptidyl transferase) and inhibiting protein synthesis.

CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY

Pharmacokinetics

Gastrointestinal absorption of Naxogin Compositum is insignificant. Most orally administered Naxogin Compositum (Nystatin) is passed unchanged in the stool. In patients with renal insufficiency receiving oral therapy with conventional dosage forms, significant plasma concentrations of Naxogin Compositum (Nystatin) may occasionally occur.

Microbiology

Naxogin Compositum (Nystatin) is both fungistatic and fungicidal in vitro against a wide variety of yeasts and yeast like fungi. Candida albicans demonstrates no significant resistance to Naxogin Compositum (Nystatin) in vitro on repeated subculture in increasing levels of Naxogin Compositum (Nystatin); other Candida species become quite resistant. Generally, resistance does not develop in vivo. Naxogin Compositum (Nystatin) acts by binding to sterols in the cell membrane of susceptible Candida species with a resultant change in membrane permeability allowing leakage of intracellular components. Naxogin Compositum (Nystatin) exhibits no appreciable activity against bacteria, protozoa, or viruses.

INDICATIONS AND USAGE

Naxogin Compositum (Nystatin) tablets are intended for the treatment of non-esophageal mucus membrane gastrointestinal candidiasis.
