Deprectal-S is a medicine belonging to the antiepileptic class of medications. It is available under the form of 150 mg, 300 mg and 600 mg tablets, containing the active ingredient Deprectal-S and different inactive ingredients.
The drug is typically used in the treatment of patients suffering from epilepsy. As monotherapy or in combination with other drugs, it is recommended for adults suffering from partial seizures, while in the case of children of over 4 years of age it is used to treat seizures in monotherapy only. In the case of children of, or over 2 years of age, this drug may only be employed in combination with other medication for the treatment of epilepsy. Take Deprectal-S for the full prescribed duration of the therapy. You may not stop taking the medicine without your physician's consent.
Your prescriber will determine the appropriate Deprectal-S dosage that you need to employ during your therapy. Typically, the treatment starts with initial doses of 600 mg per day, and may be increased over time. Whenever appropriate, the dosage is increased by 300 mg; however the increase may not occur more often than once every three days. The normal maintenance dose that should be attained is of 1200 mg per day. In the case of children, the dosage is determined based on body weight, and should not exceed 600 mg per day.
As the Deprectal-S dosage is determined based on several factors which are particular to your case, it is very likely that your dosage will differ from that of other patients'. As such, it is strongly recommended that you only take the medication dosage that has been prescribed to you; do not employ the medication dosage prescribed to another patient, as this may cause the therapy to not yield the expected results.
You should never exceed the recommended Deprectal-S daily dosage. An overdose with this drug may cause severe long and short term consequences and in severe cases it may prove lethal. As such, if you suspect that you have taken too much of this medicine it is strongly suggested that you contact the local poisons center or go to the nearest medical facility to obtain emergency assistance.
If you accidentally miss a dose of Deprectal-S, you should take it as soon as you remember. However if this happens when it is almost time for another intake of the medicine, it is best that you completely skip the missed dose and continue with your regular intake program. Do not double a dose in order to make up for a missed one.
In order to avoid accidentally missing any of your Deprectal-S intakes you should check with your personal physician and set up an intake schedule that suits your agenda and life style. Taking the medicine at around the same time every day helps reduce the risk of forgetting about any doses.
In rare cases, Deprectal-S therapy may cause severe side effects. You should contact your personal physician at once if you experience any signs of an allergic reaction, mood or behavior changes, suicidal tendencies, vision disturbances, involuntary eye movement, speaking or concentration difficulties, coordination loss, abnormal gait, tremor, easy bruising or bleeding, persistent sore throat, chest pain, abdominal pain, dark urine, bloody stool, jaundice.
Apart from these, a number of less severe side effects may occur. These should be brought to the attention of your physicist if they become bothersome or persistent: drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, nausea and vomiting, fatigue, sleeping disorders, mouth dryness, acne.
Deprectal-S may interact with other drugs and medication, such as other seizure control drugs or calcium channel blockers. For a full list of drug interactions, it is best to consult a pharmacist or a specialized physician. Do not start taking this medication before informing your prescriber of any other drugs you are currently taking, and do not start taking any other medication without first consulting with your personal health care specialist.
Deprectal-S may interfere with the action of birth control pills. While taking this medicine it is best that you use an additional reliable contraceptive method, such as condoms or a diaphragm.
Depending on the reaction of the Deprectal-S after taken, if you are feeling dizziness, drowsiness or any weakness as a reaction on your body, Then consider Deprectal-S not safe to drive or operate heavy machine after consumption. Meaning that, do not drive or operate heavy duty machines after taking the capsule if the capsule has a strange reaction on your body like dizziness, drowsiness. As prescribed by a pharmacist, it is dangerous to take alcohol while taking medicines as it exposed patients to drowsiness and health risk.
