It also is useful in rheumatoid arthritis and Reiter's syndrome (investigational indication). Although Tomanol Tablets (Phenylbutazone) is effective in gouty arthritis, risk/benefit considerations indicate that this drug should not be employed for this disease. Tomanol Tablets (Phenylbutazone) is a synthetic, pyrazolone derivative. It is a nonhormonal anti-inflammatory, antipyretic compound useful in the management of inflammatory conditions. The apparent analgesic effect is probably related mainly to the compound's anti-inflammatory properties and arise from its ability to reduce production of prostaglandin H and prostacyclin. Prostaglandins act on a variety of cells such as vascular smooth muscle cells causing constriction or dilation, on platelets causing aggregation or disaggregation and on spinal neurons causing pain. | for > 15 years I was prescribed tomanol at very high dosages to fight morbus bechterew. it did not really help reducing the severity of the illness. the drug was pretty damageing to the blood components. more seriously, it ruined an entirely healthy dentition, caused multiple problems in the mandibulare, resulting in 7 or 8 times of massive jaw surgery. thanks to excellent longtime dental care at the dental hospital in birmingham uk, that spontaneously igniting of infections came to an end. I remain under their supwrvision, still afraid of a recurrence of an inflamed jaw. frequency of revision is a minimal of 6 times a year, someimes 2x per month. |
