Eskold uses

Eskold consists of Diphenylpyraline Hydrochloride, Phenylpropanolamine Hydrochloride.

Diphenylpyraline Hydrochloride:

Eskold (Diphenylpyraline Hydrochloride) is an antihistamine. Antihistamines used in the treatment of allergy act by competing with histamine for H 1-receptor sites on effector cells. Antihistamines prevent, but do not reverse, responses mediated by histamine alone. Antihistamines antagonize, in varying degrees, most of the pharmacological effects of histamine, including urticaria and pruritus.

Indication: For use in the treatment of allergic rhinitis, hay fever, and allergic skin disorders.

Eskold (Diphenylpyraline Hydrochloride) antagonizes most of the pharmacological effects of histamine, including urticaria and pruritus. Also, Eskold (Diphenylpyraline Hydrochloride) may exhibit anticholinergic actions (as do most of the antihistamines) and may thus provide a drying effect on the nasal mucosa.

Phenylpropanolamine Hydrochloride:

Eskold (Phenylpropanolamine Hydrochloride) has been withdrawn in Canada. In November 2000, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a public health advisory against the use of the drug.

Indication: For the treatment of nasal congestion, control of urinary incontinence, priapism and obesity.

Eskold (Phenylpropanolamine Hydrochloride) (PPA), a sympathomimetic agent structurally similar to pseudoephedrine, is used to treat nasal congestion. Eskold (Phenylpropanolamine Hydrochloride) is found in appetite suppressant formulations and with guaifenesinin in cough-cold formulations. In 2000, the FDA requested that all drug companies discontinue marketing products containing Eskold (Phenylpropanolamine Hydrochloride), due to an increased risk of hemorrhagic stroke in women who used Eskold (Phenylpropanolamine Hydrochloride).
