Mebendazole:
Mebex Plus is a worming medication a broad spectrum of action, it is most effective when enterobioze. This drug causes irreversible disturbance of glucose utilization in the body of the worm and inhibits the synthesis of ATP.
Mebex Plus (Mebendazole) is practically not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The plasma protein binding is 90%. This medication is distributed unevenly in organs and accumulates in adipose tissue, liver, and larvae of helminths. Mebex Plus (Mebendazole) is metabolized in the liver to 2-amino derivative.
T1/2 is 2.5-5.5 hours. More than 90% of the dose is excreted unchanged in feces. Grown deep portion (5-10%) is excreted by kidneys.
Enterobiasis, ascariasis, hookworm disease, strongyloidiasis, trichuriasis, trichinosis, teniasis, echinococcosis, mixed helminth infections.
For adults and children over 10 years at enterobioze a single dose is 100 mg.
For children aged 2 to 10 years a single dose is 25-50 mg. In the case of a high probability of re-infestation the drug taking repeats after 2-4 weeks in the same dose.
It is recommended that simultaneous treatment of all family members.
When ascariasis, trichuriasis, hookworm disease, teniasis, strongyloidiasis and mixed helminthiasis - 100 mg in the morning and evening for 3 days. When trichinosis - 200-400 mg 3 times / day for 3 days, from 4th to 10th day - 400-500 mg 3 times / day. When echinococcosis - 500 mg 2 times / day in the first 3 days, then the same dose 3 times / day in the next 3 days. Later Mebex Plus used in doses of 25-30 mg / kg / day in 3-4 doses.
Digestive system: rarely - nausea, abdominal pain; when used in high doses for long periods of time may be vomiting, diarrhea, transient elevation of liver enzymes in serum.
CNS: Rarely - dizziness when used in high doses for long periods of time - a headache.
Hematopoietic system: when used in high doses for long periods of time may be leukopenia, anemia, eosinophilia.
Urinary system: when used in high doses for long periods of time - hematuria, cylindruria.
Other: when used in high doses for long periods of time - an allergic reaction, hair loss.
Pronounced liver disfunctions, pregnancy, lactation (breastfeeding), children under 2 years of age, hypersensitivity to Mebex Plus (Mebendazole).
Mebex Plus is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding).
Category of the fetus by FDA - C.
With prolonged use of Mebex Plus (Mebendazole) it is necessary to control the peripheral blood picture, liver and kidney function.
Within days after taking Mebex Plus (Mebendazole) avoid drinking alcohol.
After receiving Mebex Plus (Mebendazole) do not use a laxative.
It is mandatory a periodic examination of smears of the anal region and the feces after treatment (therapy is effective in the absence of helminths or their eggs for 7 consecutive days).
Mebex Plus (Mebendazole) reduces insulin requirements in diabetic patients.
It is necessary to avoid a simultaneously taking of Mebex Plus (Mebendazole) with lipophilic substances. With simultaneous use with cimetidine it may increase, and carbamazepine, and other inducers of metabolism to reduce the concentration of Mebex Plus (Mebendazole) in the blood.
Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain. With prolonged use at high doses: reversible hepatic dysfunction, hepatitis, neutropenia.
Treatment: gastric lavage, enemas, activated charcoal method; there is no specific antidote.

- Do not de-worm a dog or puppy that is sick. Consult a veterinarian for diagnosis of the illness.
- Mebex Plus (Pyrantel Embonate) Flavored Chewables are safe for use in puppies 12 weeks or older and adult dogs. Safety in breeding dogs and pregnant bitches has not been tested.
Vomiting, loose stools (with or without blood) and decreased activity following treatment. If you notice these signs, contact a veterinarian.
Each flavored chewable contains 30 mg of Mebex Plus (Pyrantel Embonate) pamoate and 30 mg of praziquantel. The dose for each drug is 2.27 mg per pound of body weight (5 mg/kg). Please refer to the following dosing table for help finding the right dose for your dog.

Recommended De-Worming Schedule:
Consult your veterinarian for assistance in the diagnosis, treatment, and control of parasitism. De-worming schedules may vary depending on the climate where you live and the activity of your dog.
Re-treatment:
Re-treatment of your dog may be necessary as determined by laboratory fecal examination and/or if your dog is living where re-infections are likely to occur. Consult your veterinarian for assistance in the diagnosis and prevention of re-infection. In case of re-infection with tapeworms (Dipylidium caninum), consult your veterinarian for advice on how to remove fleas from the dog and the environment.
